And it's clear that "the war is not over" as each side continues to lay claim to the Iron Throne.

Set against the haunting melodies of London Grammar's The Devil Inside, the previously unseen footage opens with the Lannister family.

Cersei (Lena Headey) ominously says: "Your joy will turn to ashes in you mouth and you will know the debt is paid."

Anxiously contemplating what his sister could be plotting next, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) responds: "Sooner or later, Cersei always gets what she wants."

Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is seen determinedly continuing her fight for power as she asserts: "They can live in my new world, or they can die in their old one."

Her dragons also make an appearance, having grown significantly in size since series three.

The fate of the once-powerful Stark family is questioned, with Brienne of Tarth (Gwensoline Chrisite) vowing to find the young Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).

And there are plenty of scenes of fire-brimming chaos, as fans have come to expect from the series.

Showrunner David Benioff recently revealed that Game of Thrones will run for seven seasons, after HBO producers conducted talks with author George RR Martin about how the fantasy series will conclude.

Game of Thrones will air in the US on HBO on Sunday 6 April, and then in the UK on Sky Atlantic on Monday 7 April.
