A familiar character will have the unhappy task of keeping out the White Walkers

With Jon Snow’s resurrection now out in the open, thanks to HBO, speculation starts afresh on what he will be up to in season 6 of Game of Thrones.

Castle Black and Night’s Watch scenes were filmed in Northern Ireland over the weekend, and Kit Harington was noticeably absent.

In fact, L7R was able to confirm not only that he is no longer the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, but that a new one has been appointed.

The first part we pretty much knew, given Harington was spotted filming battle scenes in Stark armour (eeep!) earlier in the year, but it will be interesting to see who takes over at the Wall.

Will this complete weapon be taking over Castle Black once more?

Apparently the new Lord Commander ‘is a character that’s been known to us for several seasons’. The most likely successor would be Alliser Thorne (who led the mutiny against Jon), but it’s also possible a character we’re familiar with from elsewhere in Westeros will get drafted in for the incredibly important, if not very fun, job.

Last week, spoilers from the set pointed to how exactly Jon will return from the dead following his multi-stabbing at the end of season 5.

Season 6 has a release date of April, and will most likely premiere on HBO and Sky Atlantic on the 24th.
