Trailer: Game of Thrones Season 7

Game of Thrones season 7 may be shorter than usual, consisting of just seven episodes instead of 10, but it looks as though this will allow for each one to be longer.

We know episode 1 will be 59 minutes long, making it one of the show's lengthiest season premieres ever, but the finale will be over an hour, in fact, "well over an hour" according to reliably show source EW.

Game of Thrones' season finales usually get a few extra minutes, but this raises the tantalising prospect of an almost feature-length episode.

It would only be the case for the closer though, as EW notes that the average episode length will not be much longer than normal.

The cast have recently been talking about how they're actually getting more screen time than ever in spite of the shorter episode count, owing to the fact that so many big characters were killed off last season.

Game of Thrones season 7 arrives on HBO and Sky Atlantic 16 July.
