The finale of Game of Thrones season six was notable for a number of reasons, one of the most overlooked being Jon Snow and Sansa Stark finally acknowledging ‘Winter is here’.

As you may suspect, season seven looks set to be the chilliest season yet, with the newly announced filming location feeding into this hypothesis.

An Icelandic news site is reporting that the HBO series will film in the country sometime in January, representatives for the cable network having already met with locals to discuss the filming.

Watchers on the Wall note that the news has yet to be confirmed but it would make sense considering various Game of Thrones scenes have been filmed there before.

The report also details how six main characters will film in Iceland, which we can safely assume includes Bran, Jon, Sansa, The Night’s King, and Littlefinger (perhaps Benjen again?).

Who is Azor Ahai?

Season seven has yet to receive a premiere date, but according to the showrunners, it will hit the airwaves a little later than normal and will only be seven episodes long.

Meanwhile, A Song of Ice and Fire author George RR Martin revealed he ‘hasn’t agreed’ with everything the show has done since overtaking the novels in season six.
