Unlike most of the Game of Thrones cast, Paul Kaye’s background isn’t solely in acting and first and foremost he is a comedian.
Perhaps because of this, he had a bit of a crisis of confidence in his hotel room the night before he was due to film his first scene as recurring character Thoros of Myr in the huge HBO show.
Suddenly becoming very aware of his lack of acting training, he took desperate measures.
"When I first got the gig, I was pretty terrified and couldn’t sleep,” he recalled to the Express.
“I got to Belfast and I was being picked up at 4.30am for filming, and at 2am I was on Google typing in, ‘How to act’.”
That search phrase pulls up a WikiHow article as the first result, which the writer probably never expected would be informing a Game of Thrones performance.
In memoriam: Every major character who died in Game of Thrones season 6
"I suddenly thought, 'what am I doing here? How the hell have I got here and how am I going to cope with it?' I do have those moments of massive insecurity,” he added.
Kaye said he couldn’t talk about season 7 of the show due to fear of reprisals from HBO, but did point out that “If I was in it, I would have started filming.”
It would be surprising if Thoros wasn’t involved somehow though, as we saw him team up with The Hound in season 6.
