There have been plenty of climactic moments and encounters in Game of Thrones' six-season history, but the narrative has always been fragmented, with sub-plots taking place in different lands and several major characters having been never met and been separated by oceans.
*Spoilers ahead*
It seems season 7 is going to see one hell of a meet-up, however. We already knew about several important rendezvous - Jon and Daenerys…Tyrion and Davos… but after weeks of spoiler reporting in Spain, Watchers on the Wall has managed to compile a staggering list of characters who will all be present at the massive Dragonpit scene. They are (in a sort-of order of importance/interest):
Damn. This list could still be extended, but is already the biggest collection of major characters we’ve ever seen, even bigger than the gathering at Winterfell back when all was fairly harmonious in season one.
In memoriam: Every major character who died in Game of Thrones season 6
Show all 34
There is a crazy amount of bad blood between a lot of these characters, many want what others have and many would happily see others dead, so it is sure to be an intense scene.
Footage and stills from filming suggest Jon and Daenerys will be somewhat allied, while Cersei is likely to team up with Euron - but don’t expect the sides to be that clearly drawn, this is Game of Thrones after all and there is always treachery afoot.
In other filming news, Mark Gatiss is believed to be on set, suggesting we will see more of the Iron Bank of Braavos, and his character Tycho Nestoris is expected to demand that Queen Cersei settles her debt.
Game of Thrones season 7 will consist of seven episodes and arrive on HBO and Sky Atlantic in summer 2017.
