Game of Thrones’ seventh season has wrapped, answering a dozen questions while leaving us with two hundred more. One of those concerns Tormund Giantsbane.

The leader of the Free Folk was last seen standing alongside Beric Dondarrion, watching the Night King finally bring down the Wall using the undead Viserion.

Whether Tormund survived the onslaught remains a mystery to everyone, including actor Kristofer Hivju, who still doesn’t know whether he survived.

“I honestly don't know,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter. “It doesn't look good though, does it?”

Asked whether the showrunners had asked him to return, Hivju reiterated: “I don't know. I don't know.”

Questioned about an off-screen death being a fitting end to the character, he continued: “If this is my way out ... well, it's the huge cliffhanger of the season. So, in that way, that people might have to wait two years to know whether he's dead or alive?

“If I was [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss], and I wanted to kill Tormund and Beric off, I wouldn't end the season with the death. I would end it with the cliffhanger.

“So, I understand that. But I wish he could have whispered something into one of those crows' ears before it happened. But, you know, when the Wall is down, they won't need the Night's Watch or the Free Folk at the Wall anymore. It's a hell of an ending.”

The climactic final moments of Game of Thrones’ seventh season was notable for a few other reasons too. The bands Mastodon and Bastille made cameo appearances, while the White Walkers marched in a curios formation that has everyone talking.
