Game of Thrones full season 8 trailer

The newly released Game of Thrones trailer has shed light on the fate of two beloved characters, by hinting that Tormund and Beric are alive and well.

Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) and Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) ended season seven on an uncertain note, after a fateful encounter with the Night King as Westeros’s Wall fell.

Both characters appear in the season eight trailer released on Tuesday, walking side by side while carrying torches.

While nothing can be certain, of course, until Game of Thrones‘s eighth and final season airs in April, it does appear as though Tormund and Beric survived after all.

Director Jeremy Podeswa had previously left the question of the two characters’ fate open to speculation.

“I can honestly tell you that I don’t know,” Podeswa told IGN after being asked whether the duo had perished.

“I’ve also chosen not to know. I’m sure Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff] know and the other people working on the next season know, but we certainly wanted to keep it open by the end of the episode. Open to interpretation.

“We didn’t put a fine point on it about who survived and who didn’t. It certainly doesn’t look great for those who were on the Wall though.”
