Good Morning Britain not facing the axe despite low ratings, ITV confirms

The morning news programme presented by Susanna Reid is under fire

There are “no plans to axe” Good Morning Britain despite a recent ratings drop, ITV has confirmed.

The morning news programme, which replaced Daybreak in late April, suffered a low of 270,000 viewers last Monday while its BBC rival Breakfast attracted 1.17 million.

As Daybreak was brought to an end for less disappointing numbers, speculation has been rife that Good Morning Britain’s future looks similarly bleak.

But, according to an ITV spokesperson, the show is far from doomed yet: “We are in this for the long game. We are proud of the show, we are trying something new and different.”

Susanna Reid leads the show’s presenting team alongside Ben Shepherd, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins. Reid moved to Good Morning Britain from Breakfast, where she co-anchored with Bill Turnbull.

Last week she told The Mirror: “There is a lot of focus on ratings – and comparing us to my alma mater on the other side. But four weeks in is just too early to judge. The team is terrific and I am lucky to be a part of it.”
