Great British Bake Off winner: Nadiya triumphs over Tamal and Ian with wedding cake showstopper

Nadiya has been revealed as the winner of this year’s Great British Bake Off, beating Tamal and Ian to lift arguably the most coveted trophy on television.

The 30-year-old mother of three from Leeds was the bookies' favourite, thanks to her brilliant facial expressions as much as her stunning bakes.

Her beautiful lemon drizzle wedding cake in honour of the British wedding she never had, having married in Bangladesh, wowed, as did her iced buns and perfect mille-feuille.

From her fizzy pop cheesecake and gorgeous chocolate peacock to those memorable, if highly dubious bubblegum eclairs, Nadiya’s time in the Bake Off tent has seen highs and lows.

It didn’t take long for viewers to warm to her honesty, self-deprecation and how much it all meant of her, even if she did confess that she’d “sooner have another baby” than endure much more Bake Off stress.

Nadiya tasted the glory of being named Star Baker and even received a prestigious Paul Hollywood handshake for her heavenly peanut and chocolate torte, but she never came across smug. Instead, she clearly just could not believe it.

Nadiya recently admitted that before the series began, she worried that not being “a Muslim in a headscarf” might threaten her chances.

“Originally I was a bit nervous that people would look at me and wonder if I could bake,” she told Radio Times. “But I hope that week by week, people have realised that I can bake - and just because I’m not a stereotypical British person, it doesn’t mean that I’m not into bunting, cake and tea.”

Judging by previous conetestants' post-Bake Off achievements, Nadiya could expect to earn a book deal from her triumph.
