Great British Bake Off’s Mel and Sue get their own day-time chat show

Comedy pair to host new show on ITV, 15 years after their Channel 4 show was cancelled

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, the warm-hearted comedy duo known currently for their innuendo-packed presenting skills on The Great British Bake Off have landed their own day-time TV chat show, 15 years after their last one was cancelled.

Mel and Sue’s new show will be aired on ITV, and made by the same production company behind their 1990s chat show, Light Lunch.

Light Lunch ran on Channel 4 from 1997 to 1998, before being renamed Late Lunch and moved to an evening slot. The show was then cancelled in 1999.

The presenters and comediennes then worked separately for a number of years, before Perkins revealed on Jonathan Ross’s show in 2009 that the pair would be working together on a new project the next year.

The next year, Mel and Sue reunited to host The Great British Bake Off when it launched in 2010.

Their new ITV show is reportedly set for the 4pm slot on the channel, with Perkins’ own Square Peg TV production company also involved.

Helen Warner, ITV director of daytime, announced the new show and said: "I've been a big Mel and Sue fan for years and I'm thrilled their new show will be part of the ITV daytime schedule.

"Both are brilliant broadcasters and comedians and bring a unique warmth and charisma as presenters."
