Last year’s The Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has signed a deal with the BBC to front various programmes for the broadcaster.

The broadcaster revealed that Hussain was making a “home” for herself on the BBC, adding that she will continue doing The One Show segments while developing "other exciting programme ideas”.

The news dampens rumours Hussain was contemplating moving with Bake Off to Channel 4 with Paul Hollywood. Instead, some publications are speculating the 31-year-old may actually be gearing up to present a Bake Off replacement with Mary Berry, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.

Details regarding Hussain’s work with the BBC have yet to be detailed. In a statement, she said: "Since winning The Great British Bake Off I've been lucky to have had some amazing opportunities with the BBC.

"I believe that making it my home gives me the scope to work across such a unique range of diverse and interesting projects. I'm delighted to announce that I will continue making films for The One Show, as well as developing other exciting programme ideas. I never thought this would happen, but it is and I have to admit, I'm going to embrace it."

The Love Productions show was acquired by Channel 4 earlier this year for a reported £25 million; Jo Brand is believed to be favourite to replace Mel and Sue.
