House of Cards announces Kevin Spacey replacements for final season

There are two new cast members coming to D.C.

Netflix has announced two new cast members for the final season of House of Cards - Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear.

The news was announced on Wednesday when production on the hit series resumed for what will be its shortest season to date.

Both actors will replace Spacey in the sixth and final season of the show.

Lane is an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild-nominated actress best known for her roles in feature-length films Unfaithful, Under The Tuscan Sun and Must Love Dogs.

Kinnear has previously been nominated at the Academy Awards and is an Emmy award-winning actor who currently stars in Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams; he previously starred in Little Miss Sunshine, As Good As It Gets and You've Got Mail.

The two cast additions will join Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver in the upcoming season.

In October 2017, Spacey was accused of sexually assaulting actor Anthony Rapp when he was 14-years-old.

When the allegations came out, Spacey deflected the news by publicly coming out as gay.

Since Rapp told his story, more than 30 individuals have made claims against Spacey for everything from sexual harassment to attempted rape.

Upon news of the allegations, Spacey was essentially fired from House of Cards and recast in the film All The Money In The World.

When House of Cards began in 2013, it became the first original online series to garner accolades from the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Throughout its past five seasons, House of Cards has received 53 Emmy nominations and has won seven of them.
