House of Cards - season 6 trailer

A new House of Cards trailer released by Netflix offers the best look at season 6 yet, and appears to show new president Claire Underwood feigning grief over her husband’s death.

The show appeared to be flagging in seasons 4 and 5, but the departure of Kevin Spacey has returned some of its buzz, as viewers tune in to see how the show rounds out with Robin Wright's character as the protagonist.

Sympathy is in short supply among those who know her to be complicit in Francis’ crimes, however, particularly with chief of staff Doug Stamper, who is seen in the trailer telling journalist Tom Hammerschmidt: “She’s as guilty as he is, maybe more.”

It’s not just her inner circle Claire has to worry about though, with Congress apparently trying to curb her powers and even the public turning against her.

“Video of Underwood’s awkward hand moment goes viral,” is one headline she battles in the trailer.

The previous trailer saw Claire declare that “the reign of the middle-aged white man is over,” and it seems this female empowerment element will be a prominent one, this latest tease seeing her ask: “Guess which kind of people I’m done suffering?” and later tell Doug: “I’m not going to be told what to do anymore – not by you or any man.”

It’s Stamper who closes the trailer, the Russian prime minister asking him “who he fears most,” to which he replies simply: “Her.”

Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear join the cast for the new episodes.

The sixth and final season of House of Cards will launch on Netflix Friday 2 November, 2018.
