The Grand Tour: How to watch it on TV through Amazon Prime

Whether you have a smart device or not, here's how to watch the new show

After months of waiting, Top Gear fans will once again be able to watch Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May back on screen together for The Grand Tour.

However, unlike the aforementioned BBC show, The Grand Tour won’t be a classic TV show: instead, Clarkson’s latest outing will be viewable through Amazon’s streaming service Amazon Prime.

So, how exactly can you watch The Grand Tour come Friday, 18 November? Look no further as we have all the answers below.

What do I need to watch The Grand Tour?

First of all, it should be noted that no terrestrial TV station will be airing the show: in other words, there is no channel to watch it on Channel 4, BBC One, ITV etc. Not even Dave.

Instead, you need an Amazon Prime account - which you can sign up for here - which costs £79 a year. Discounts are available for students and other deals are available.

I’ve got Amazon Prime, now what?

On most computers, smartphones, tablets, video consoles, and Smart TVs, there will be an app store. Through the app store, you can download the Amazon Prime Instant Video App. Come The Grand Tour’s release, you will be able to watch the show through the compatible device.

I don’t have a smart TV. How can I watch The Grand Tour?

As noted above, you can watch on your computer and other devices, including phone and tablet. However, to watch through a non-Smart TV - i.e. most pre-2015 TVs - you will need to have another device.

For anyone with a games console, this should be relatively straightforward. You can download the Amazon app straight onto your PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, or Wii U.

If you don’t have a console or Smart TV, you will likely need to purchase either an Amazon Fire TV set-top box for an additional £79 or a Fire TV Stick for £35. Both connect to your internet to stream Amazon video, as well as being able to stream iPlayer, Netflix, and YouTube through your TV. With these devices, you also get 30 days free of Amazon Prime to enjoy.
