The Jump: Viewers ask Channel 4 to scrap show as Beth Tweddle, Rebecca Adlington and Tina Hobley hospitalised in less than two weeks

'Surely it's time to cancel this ridiculously dangerous show before someone's seriously injured'

This year’s series of The Jump has not gotten off to a good start, with numerous contestants in hospital after just two weeks of being on air.

Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington was the first to leave the contest, having dislocated her shoulder, quickly followed by Tina Hobley who dislocated her elbow.

Most recently, Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle has injured herself and been airlifted to hospital. It has not been announced what condition she is in, with Channel 4 expected to soon give a statement.

The numerous injuries have led to many appalled viewers Tweeting how the madness to end and the show should to be cancelled.

One Tweeter wrote: “Terrible for Beth Tweddle to injure her back on The Jump after years as a competitive gymnast! Maybe it’s time for The Jump to stop now?”

Another added: “Can channel 4 just cancel this god awful show please”

There are as-yet no plans to end the show, and the remaining contestants will stay on to compete in this year’s contest.

Channel 4 have said in a statement: "All events are planned with thorough health and safety procedures in place and the competitors safety is always of the upmost importance.

"There will always be an element of risk when competing in winter sports but all competitors undergo rigorous training and instruction with health and safety experts present. No competitor is cleared to take part unless the trainers deem their ability as proficient."
