The Leftovers will return in the UK this July, Sky Atlantic has confirmed.

While the critically-acclaimed series, which is currently riding high at the top of Metacritic's 'Best of' list with an impressive score of 98, is onto its fourth episode, UK fans have been left confused as to when they'd be seeing the third and final season.

Well, the date has been set for 4 July where the Damon Lindelof series will debut on both Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.

The Leftovers, starring Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Christopher Eccleston and Amy Brenneman, focuses on the aftermath of a fictional event which sees 2% of the world’s population disappear. Initially set in Mapleton, New York, Lindelof rejigged the formula for season two, relocating the characters to Jarden - a Texan town renamed 'Miracle' due to being the only town unaffected by the event.

While the first series, based on the Tom Perrotta novel, earned middling ratings and small critical chatter, its second was deemed a bona fide sensation with hype surrounding the third in overdrive.

The Leftovers continues in the US on Sundays and will be available to watch in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on 4 July.
