The US First Lady will make a cameo in the season six finale of Parks and Recreation

Michelle Obama is set to guest star in the forthcoming season six finale of Parks and Recreation, her White House office has confirmed

The First Lady of the United States will make a cameo appearance in “Moving Up” to promote her child obesity campaign. The one-hour episode is scheduled to air in the US on 24 April.

NBC, the network behind the show, tweeted further confirmation of Mrs Obama's role (see below).

Parks and Recreation takes place in the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee, where Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope lives.

Poehler attended Mrs Obama’s Let’s Move school fundraising event in Miami earlier this month to pledge her support for the health campaign.

Past high profile politicians to appear on Parks and Recreation include US Vice President Joe Biden in 2012 and former presidential runner John McCain.

Mrs Obama is no stranger to TV cameos. The First Lady has made more than 40 appearances during Barack Obama's term as president, including one in children's show Sesame Street. Last week she was interviewed by Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

Executive producer Michael Schur told The Hollywood Reporter of his hopes to secure Hillary Clinton for Parks and Recreation: “I always imagined the perfect ending to the series – and I hope it’s not for a while – would be casual piece of B-roll where Leslie is walking through a building in Washington, DV and passes Hillary Clinton and Hillary Clinton says, ‘Leslie’.

“Leslies says, ‘Secretary Clinton’ and keeps walking.”
