Hit podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno gets HBO special
The special is set to air in 2019
Hit podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno has landed an HBO comedy special.
Co-creator James Cooper first revealed a deal was imminent at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, with HBO announcing on Monday that the comedy special will air in 2019 (via Deadline).
Hosted by Cooper, Jamie Morton, and Alice Levine, My Dad Wrote A Porno sees Morton read chapters from his father’s own erotic series “Belinda Blinked” – penned under the nom de plume Rocky Flinstone – while Cooper and Levine chip in with commentary.
Morton and Cooper are both television executives who have worked on series such as The Apprentice and The X Factor. Levine presents Big Brother’s Bit on the Side and has her own MTV chat show, as well as an award-winning Radio 1 show.
The podcast has attracted a string of celebrity fans, with guests on the show including Daisy Ridley, Elijah Wood, Silicon Valley‘s Thomas Middleditch, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom.
“My Dad Wrote A Porno shows the extent of just how embarrassing dads can be, in the best possible way,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president, HBO Programming. “James, Jamie and Alice transformed a very awkward situation into an undeniably hilarious experience that we’re excited to share with our audience.”
Since its launch in 2015, the podcast has been downloaded more than 100 million times.
Cooper also revealed that a previous attempt to adapt a pilot based on the podcast, believed to be for a British broadcaster, fell to the wayside.
