This X-Files revival just gets better and better. Not only will David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and original creator Chris Carter be returning, but so will the villainous Smoking Man.

Played by William B. Davis, the character served as the arch-nemesis to FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder. His name was eventually revealed to be C.G.B. Spender, but his Smoking Man alias persisted due to the fact he was always seen chain-smoking Morley cigarettes.

During an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Duchovny also said that FBI assistant Walter Skinner will be back, though the cast has not yet been made official by Fox.

It remains to be seen whether the Cigarette Smoking Man will actually continue to smoke cigarettes however, given how this is now banned from being depicted on mainstream channels like Fox.

The network has ordered a six-episode 'event series' that will see Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully investigate new supernatural mysteries.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

The X-Files is expected to arrive in late 2015.
