A teaser trailer for the second series of Peaky Blinders has been released, showing a glimpse of Tommy Shelby as he tries to expand his family gang.

The 15 second teaser shows Tommy, played by Cillian Murphy, looking self-important at his desk, but reveals nothing of Tom Hardy’s anticipated cameo appearance in the forthcoming series.

As the Birmingham-based gang leader looks knowingly on from his desk smoking a cigarette, he can be heard saying: “It’s time to make some real money.”

The half-threatening tone of the trailer sets the mood for what creator Steven Knight describes as a “more dangerous” second series.

“It’s getting bigger, it’s getting richer and as a result of that it’s getting more dangerous. The gang are entering areas of even greater jeopardy,” he said.

Murphy also revealed that Tommy will be set for a bumpy ride when he moves down south to expand his criminal empire.

He said: “Now the next target is London, moving south and encountering more obstacles…trying to go legitimate but constantly being pulled back down in that criminal world, and that pull-and-push is the really exciting dramatic element of it.”

The acclaimed BBC Two drama returns with some new faces, including Hardy, Noah Taylor and Charlotte Riley.

Helen McCrory, Sam Neill, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle and Joe Cole will reprise their roles as the Shelby family expands its empire in the roaring Twenties.

Peaky Blinders returns to BBC Two this October.
