Despite ‘fighting to keep his clothes on’, Aidan Turner’s chest was once again stripped bare on Poldark during season two’s opening episode.

BBC One proudly Tweeted about the moment, writing “When everything in life seems to be against you, just take off your shirt and go hammer some rocks.”

The online community, as expected, swooned as Ross took to the mines, angrily hammering his pain and struggles away, topless for only reasons the producers know.

One Tweeter wrote: “Nice to see a topless scene, so soon in. Screw you complainers!” Another said: “Phew. Still not over that mining scene. Licence fee fully worth it for shirtless Poldark alone.”

It wasn’t only Tweeters enamoured by Turner; various publications were caught up in the moment, The Guardian writing how the show was “hotter, darker, starker” than previously. Digital Spy noted it only took 20 minutes for tops to be removed.

Really, it should be no surprise the BBC wanted the actor’s body on camera once again: one particular topless scene, in which the titular character was seen using a scythe, was nominated the ‘best TV moment of 2015’.

Before the episode aired Turner said in an interview that the producers attempted to write a scene in which he would emerge from water, topless once more, but he objected to including it.
