Taboo season 2: BBC confirms Tom Hardy series will return for a second run

Hardy brought the series to screen alongside Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight

Taboo, the drama series from Tom Hardy and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, will officially return for a second season, it has been confirmed.

The eight-part series, which co-stars Oona Chaplin, Jonathan Pryce and Mark Gatiss, began in January airing on BBC One in the UK and FX in the US.

Set in 1814, the period drama stars Hardy as James Delaney, an adventurer who uncovers a dark family conspiracy upon returning home from Africa with the aim of avenging his father's death.

Knight has been vocal about his hopes of the show returning, stating earlier this year: “We think it has got a two and a three certainly, that's the plan. After that, who knows? This series is eight parts - it's a lot of time.”

Commenting on the renewal, Hardy - who collaborated on the project with his father - said: “We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing towards British drama. Fantastic news.“

“We’re thrilled people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are up for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned,” added executive producer, Sir Ridley Scott.

“Along with our international distributors, Sonar Entertainment, the BBC and FX have been great partners, supporting Taboo at every stage so it could be the dark, dirty brute of a drama that it is.”

Taboo is expected to return to BBC One in 2018.
