According to the Daily Star, the pair have impressed ITV bosses to such an extent that a spin-off show following their exploits is already in the pipeline, with the broadcaster reportedly believing they could be “the new Chris and Kem”.
Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay were the breakout stars of Love Island 2017 and have become regular ITV fixtures in the aftermath, most notably on their ITV2 game show You vs Chris & Kem.
The programme, which ended its second series in March and has yet to be recommissioned for a third, sees the pair compete against members of the public in an array of outlandish challenges.
Tommy and Curtis, whose blossoming friendship resulted in a tearful admission of love and a brief kiss on the lips on Tuesday night’s episode, have become fan favourites since the start of the series, with one viral Tweet suggesting they should get together to pocket the show’s £50,000 prize money for themselves.
They have, however, also been accused of deliberately mimicking the bromantic tension between Chris and Kem in order to secure post-Love Island work opportunities.
“Poundland Chris and Kem,” one fan joked on Twitter. “Trying too hard. Painful viewing. Sorry but this looked totally set up.”
In a statement that may pour cold water over the suggested spin-off, an ITV representative told The Independent that there have been “no discussions” about the proposed show.
