We're just under halfway through the gruelling wait for The Walking Dead season seven following the agonising cliffhanger thrown our way at the end of season six.

With the filming of the US drama's seventh season underway, executive producer Greg Nicotero has revealed that the show's crew are going all out to ensure fans remain clueless over who Negan dispatched of in those final bloody moments.

Speaking to IGN, Nicotero stated that season seven's production schedule "doesn't necessarily mean that we're shooting in order" meaning any on-set appearances - or non-appearances -probably shouldn't be taken as gospel.

*We repeat: potential season seven spoilers follow*

Yet, an on-set photo has surfaced showing some of the show's main characters - two of which were present in Negan's deadly line-up.

While it's a fair bet to assume that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) makes it out alive, the photos include the presence of one character whose fate was still very much up in the air.

Daryl Dixon.

It seems the crossbow-wielding wonder, played by Norman Reedus, has also made it out alive meaning characters including Glenn (Steven Yeun), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) are still in the running to be offed.

Also featured in these photos - taken on the set of Alexandria Safe-Zone - are Dwight (Austin Amelio), Spencer (Austin Nichols) and Negan himself (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Another leaked photo shows the character of Dwight riding Daryl's motorcycle.

Many fans believe it's Glenn who's the unfortunate victim at the end of Negan's baseball bat, bolstered by the news he's currently filming two feature films. However, the aforementioned out-of-sequence production could be to accommodate Yeun's busy schedule.

Basically, we're clueless and couldn't be happier about it.

Elsewhere, new character Ezekiel was reportedly seen on set alongside his pet tiger Shiva who is said to be depicted using a mixture of animatronics and CGI.

The Walking Dead season seven will air on FOX this October.
