The first trailer for next week's episode of The Walking Dead season 8 has been released teasing the fallout of the shock character return which rocked the show's latest instalment.

Next week's outing, titled 'Monsters,' sees the opening of this latest season become a trilogy of epic battles following on from the previous two episodes which have featured more action than the past seven seasons combined.

Featuring in the trailer are Morgan, Tara and Jesus with their newly-acquired gang of Saviour prisoners while the showdown between Rick and Morales - one of the show's original characters not seen since season 1 - intensifies.

“My people, they're coming - and we'll get you to Negan,” Morales says, a far cry from the family man he was when we last saw him.

Elsewhere, Aaron can be seen carrying his wounded partner Eric to safety while a return to the Hilltop sees a return for both Maggie and Enid.

The trailer ends with what looks to be a deadly showdown between the faction led by Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and opposing Saviour forces as the King narrates: “We will lose not one of our ranks.”

Could these turn of events lead to the latest season's first real casualty? Time will tell.

The Walking Dead season eight airs every Sunday in the US on AMC with the UK premiere arriving the following evening on FOX. It will also be available on NOWTV
