We all need truly independent journalism now more than ever to counter disinformation and hold the powerful to account at a time of profound change. Every dollar you contribute will directly fund additional special reports and investigations from a free-thinking, award-winning newsroom you can trust.

Help to support truly
No one dictates to The Independent – not political parties, nor advertisers, nor shareholders. That’s why we are truly independent. Our journalists report as they see it. Our commentators are free-thinking but rooted in fact. With the highest quality online news under threat from an unprecedented blow to the global economy, your support is vital.
When our most senior journalist in the US, Andrew Buncombe, was arrested while reporting at a Black Lives Matter protest, he gained an extraordinary insight into a failing system – jailed and assaulted in the land of the First Amendment. Your contributions will help fund projects such as his work on police culture and threats to a free press.
Every penny we receive in contributions from our readers will directly fund additional projects to shine a light on public-interest issues such as the climate crisis.
Currently, we are able to accept one-off contributions of $10, $25, $50 or $75.
Alternatively, if you’d like to contribute regularly you can also set up a monthly contribution of $5, $10, $15 or $20.
In order to contribute, we need you to register so that we are able to take a payment from you. You’ll also be able to comment on our articles and subscribe to our newsletters with a registered account. (You always have the option to opt out of any communication from us.)
If you are a subscriber and wish to contribute as well, we really appreciate your support in ensuring The Independent stays independent. You can contribute via the box above using your current login details.
Once contributions have been made we are unable to refund payments, so please only contribute if you are able to do so. For any further support with contributions please contact us on 0203 615 2990 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
If for any reason you’d like to stop contributing, you can cancel at any time via Account Details on the main website. Or email email@example.com who will assist you further.
We can only accept contributions from readers who are 18+. During the transaction you will be asked to confirm via a consent box. Please refer to T&Cs for more information.
We can currently accept contributions only from readers in the UK and US. This is something we hope to expand to more territories in the future.
Thank you for expressing an interest in contributing a higher amount to support our journalism. To contribute a different amount, please contact our customer support team on firstname.lastname@example.org or (+44) 0203 615 2990 who can assist with this.
