These websites will ensure you find something out-of-the-ordinary this year. Just make sure you order in time for February 14.

1. Not on the High Street.com: From £1, notonthehighstreet.com

Not on the High Street has hundreds of offerings by independent designers and makers that you won’t find in a run-of-the-mill card shop. From hand-drawn illustrations and quirky messages - the "I love you even when I'm really, really hungry" card by doodlelove caught our eye - to personalisable designs. Lovebirds should take a look at Cloud and Currents who have created a sweet card with detachable personalised wooden magnets (see main picture). Delivery charges and times vary according to the seller so be sure to order in good time.

Once you have chosen and created your front cover from the templates you can then insert a personalised message for the inside, you can even be specific about where you would like your text to sit on the page. Designs range from super-soppy to the likes of fun spoof magazine covers. Orders made before 4pm will be dispatched the same day. They are currently offering a free card with all flowers.
