While you may express love for your gal pals on the daily, Galentine’s Day – the day before Valentine’s Day – provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate them just that little bit more.
For the uninitiated, the term was coined in 2010 by Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope, who is played by Amy Poehler. “It’s ladies celebrating ladies,” she says in the episode.
Just because it’s not an official event, that doesn’t mean it’s not an important one to honour, particularly when you may not have seen your nearest and dearest in a long while. And, in our opinion, any opportunity for female empowerment is positive.
Unless you’re lucky to live with your best gal pal, it’s likely you’ll be celebrating from afar this year, so to help make it a little easier, we’ve found the best greeting cards to send.
From independent artists to nationwide brands, there’s a host of ways you can express your love for the women in your life, many of which can be delivered directly to them. Here’s to female friendship!
You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.
Drawgina you’re the Eloise to my Penelope A5 card
Whether you binged Bridgerton together, or you discussed your love for the Duke of Hastings at length from afar, this is the card to order. There’s no denying that Penelope and Eloise are the ultimate duo, with their close friendship and easy joy – making this an obvious choice for a Galentine’s card.
Emmy Lupin Studio Galentine’s cards pack of 4
Chances are you have more than one woman you want to express your love to this Galentine’s Day, and Emmy Lupin Studio has just the answer. This pack contains four brightly designed cards, each one allowing you to express your appreciation and love for the receiver – our personal favourite is “No. 1 Hun”. If you’re not 100 per cent on these designs, there’s another four-pack on offer (Emmy Lupin Studio, £12) including a “thanks for being so great” style.
Paperchase loveliness of you card
Let them know how much they mean to you with this simple card, which is blank inside so you can create your own message (or you could even write a poem to mark the occasion). It’s bound to put a smile on your pal’s face come 13 February, particularly if they’re in need of a reminder of how lovely they are.
Carolyn Suzuki Studio besties card
Is your bestie a fan of art? If so, they’ll love this Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat inspired card. With the option to personalise the text and send it directly to your Galentine, this is a quick and easy option if you’ve left everything to the last minute.
Paperchase you’re the bees knees card
Another simple yet lovely card to send to a pal in need of a reminder of how important they are. The bright design along with the phrase “you’re the bee’s knees” is a surefire way to put a smile on someone’s face.
Poppy’s Papercuts sisterhood card
While technically a birthday card, we think there’s no better way to show your appreciation for your gal pal than with this “sisterhood” design. Owing to the fact you can personalise the message inside, it can also be sent directly to your friend's house – win, win. Printed on high white premium paper with an uncoated finish, we think this would even look great framed once the message on the inside had been enjoyed.
Blossom and Bae ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ Galentine’s Day card
Calling all Ab Fab fans – if you and your friend are the ultimate Patsy and Eddie duo, tell them how much you appreciate them with this card, which is blank on the inside. Printed on premium glossy paper in an A6 size, we expect this to be high quality and one that’ll make your friend reminisce about the good times you’ve spent together.
Funky Pigeon my favourite Galentine photo card
Greeting card retailer Funky Pigeon has a host of Galentine’s Day cards available, but if you’re looking to send a personalised number, this is the one for you. With four sizes available, from A6 (£2.29) up to A3 (£9.99), and the option to personalise all the messages, we don’t think there’s a better way to show how much you appreciate your bestie. Plus, it can be delivered directly to their door.
