2018 British Grand Prix in numbers

Lewis Hamilton missed out on a record-breaking sixth British Grand Prix as Sebastian Vettel won at Silvestone to clinch his fourth win of the season and extend his championship lead to eight points.

After a first-lap accident with Kimi Raikkonen, Hamilton found himself last but mounted a superb comeback drive to put himself back into contention and finish second, limiting the damage as best as he could, by finishing just two seconds behind his championship rivals - albeit with the help of two safety car interventions.

Raikkonen served a 10-second penalty for taking out Hamilton at the start, but recovered well himself to overtake both Red Bulls and come home in third, with Valtteri Bottas slipping from first to fourth in a handful of lap. Re-live the action below.

A lot of fears among drivers out there that track position is going to be key. That may sound surprising on a track so wide and with so many overtaking spots as Silverstone, but it's tyre degradation that's on everyone's mind right now.

Let's hope that doesn't result in a procession race - I reckon there's a highly-charged Ferrari on the front-row to make sure that isn't the case.

TALKING POINTSDRS Zones

There's not one, not two but three DRS zones, on the main straight, the Wellington Straight and the Hangar Straight, that should give cars trailing a handy advantage to try keep up on the flowing Silverstone track.

Full throttle

That's right, the cars have so much grip these days that they are flying through Turn 1 and Copse at full throttle when low on full. That could be key for anyone looking to pass going into Village and The Loop, while will anyone be bold enough to pin it through Copse and launch a move into Maggotts?

Stops

Everyone wants to do a one-stop, but with a new surface and intense heat we just don't know how the tyres are going to react today. If it is a two-stop, drivers will need to blink early and fully commit to the strategy change.

Drama for Toro Rosso as Brendon Hartley's car is not ready to go. He of course had that huge accident yesterday, and when they attempted to fire the car up they got nothing in return. They're attempting to bolt the floor on now but it's not looking good. Both Sirotkin and Stroll by the way are ready and waiting at the end of the pit lane.

Lap 1: Hamilton crashes! Vettel takes the lead, Bottas takes second and Raikkonen wipes out Hamilton at turn three!

Lap 2: Drama everywhere you look! Hamilton got a terrible start and was passed by Vettel within 50 metres. As the two Mercedes ran through turn two, Bottas nabbed second and heading into turn three, Hamilton was attempting to fend off Raikkonen. The Finn came charging up the inside and slid into Hamilton's rear tyre, spinning the reigning world champion and relegating him to LAST. He's got back going but that is a disastrous start for Hamilton. Raikkonen meanwhile is running in fourth after passing Ricciardo into Copse.
