Sergio Aguero announced his arrival in Manchester last night scoring his first Premier League goals and displayed remarkable strength of mind and muscle to set up another. Any judgements just yet are premature, and Swansea City are the not the greatest concern Roberto Mancini will encounter this season, but for just a moment, last night, the Carlos Tevez angst which has enveloped this club for over a year seemed to lift.

For the first 15 minutes or so, it was a form of fantasy football for Swansea but when Yaya Touré was restationed higher up the pitch after half an hour, to stop Swansea play out from defence, a light went out. David Silva, drifting across the front like, hit the bar and it took three breathless saves from Michel Vorm, the £1.5m goalkeeper signed from Utrecht five days ago, to keep the game alive and he was nowhere near the shot Gareth Barry piled against the bar on half-time.

Swansea's determination to pursue more than survival undid them. When Leon Britton ventured forward Silva scrapped the ball from him, advanced 30 yards and supplied Adam Johnson for a cross which Vorm should have held but could only parry for Edin Dzeko to tap home.

Aguero was summoned on in Nigel de Jong's place and the narrative of the night shifted beyond recognition. Touré swept a ball to Micah Richards who crossed low and accurately for Aguero to slide home right-footed. Within three minutes, Dzeko clipped a ball over for Aguero to reveal great strength in lifting it again over Vorm and send it back for Silva to clip home City's third.

A gentle pass into his path from Touré and Aguero unleashed a shot with his right instep which swerved on its way past Vorm for the fourth. It was a brutal welcome for Swansea.
