Transfer round-up: Redknapp to get his man as Parker chooses Spurs

Tottenham and West Ham were near to a deal last night for Scott Parker with final negotiations over the fee: the Hammers want £5m while Spurs would prefer to pay £1m less with add-ons. Parker (top) wants a move to Spurs over Queen's Park Rangers who were prepared to offer him more money than he would get at White Hart Lane. The Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, has not given up on also signing the Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra. The Parker deal would follow the captures of Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City, and Spain's Under-21 midfielder Yago Falque from Juventus, both on a year's loan.

QPR's manager Neil Warnock has instead captured Joey Barton on a free transfer from Newcastle. His former club pointedly thanked Barton for his "on-field contribution". The player started tweeting that he was "incredibly excited to be joining QPR at this pivotal time in their history". Barton, thought to have signed a four-year deal, will be joined at Loftus Road by Aston Villa full-back Luke Young (centre). Unfortunately for Warnock, whose squad is hit by injuries and suspension, neither deal was completed in time for today's match at Wigan. Armand Traoré, the Arsenal full-back, and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips are also thought to also be targets.

The latter would be the third City player to leave Eastlands in a few days. Having shifted most of Adebayor's salary off the wage bill, manager Roberto Mancini continued his clear-out by loaning Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata (bottom) to Bolton for the season. Liverpool were pleased to offload Alberto Aquilani to Milan on a year's loan with an option to extend his stay until June 2014. Manager Kenny Dalglish now hopes to conclude the arrival of Sebastian Coates, the Uruguayan defender.
