2010 Cultural Olympics performances range from trendy pop rock to choral extravaganzas

The Cultural Olympiad, an arts festival to celebrate the 2010 Winter Games, will fill Vancouver with more than 180 events including circus arts, comedy, music, visual arts, theatre and dance featuring artists from around the world, January 22- March 21.

Continuing through the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, concerts, performances and exhibitions include the National Dance Company of Korea, Moscow State Chamber Choir, Iranian musicians Amir Koushkani and Rahim AlHaj, Central American singers The Garifuna Women's Project, and soul singer India.Arie.

Phoenix
January 22
French pop rock band kick off the festival at the Orpheum. Formerly with electronic act Daft Punk, the band won a 2009 Grammy nomination for alternative album of the year for Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.

Steve Earle
January 23
Country singer-songwriter, Earle performs at the Orpheum in Vancouver, British Columbia. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and The Pretenders. His latest album pays tribute to Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt.

STREB Extreme Action Company
January 22-24
The New York dance company performs acrobatic stunts with contraptions and equipment like common objects including plywood, steel, glass, bricks and found objects, on an amped-up rotating floor.

Laurie Anderson
February 16-21
Performance artist Anderson takes the stage at Vancouver Playhouse for her latest work, Delusion. Described as a series of short mystery plays, she combines violin, electronic puppetry, music, visuals, and poetic language filled with characters including nuns, elves, golems, ghost ships, archaeologists, and dead relatives.
