Birmingham City winger Peter Lovenkrands was mugged outside his home last week, with the thieves escaping with a diamond-encrusted watch worth £30,000.

The police have revealed details of the incident, which occurred as the former Rangers and Newcastle United player parked his car outside his home.

Lovenkrands was approached by two men at about 2pm on Thursday January 31 who threatened him and forced him to take the Swiss-made Hunblot watch off his wrist.

They also attempted to remove the Dane's wedding ring without success before fleeing the scene.

DS Andrew O'Keeffe, investigating, described it as a "frightening attack".

O'Keeffe also said the stolen watch was "unique" and urged anyone who is offered it to contact police immediately. The men were white, in their late teens or early 20s and were wearing hooded tops.
