Asian Art Prize

The sixth annual Asian Art Prize - the region's most prestigious - will be announced at a dinner and gala auction. The first prize comes with a check for US$25,000 and the winner will be drawn from a field of 30, selected by a team of Asia's top art critics and most respected gallery curators The public can also vote for their favorite piece by logging on to event organisers the Sovereign Art Foundation's website.

ABBAWORLD

An interactive exhibition devoted to the Swedish pop group ABBA and backed by the band opens at Earls Court in London on January 27. ABBAWORLD includes 25 rooms of music, footage, images, and memorabilia from the personal collections of the band members. Among interactive activities: fans can get up on stage with 3D holograms of the band, take an ABBA quiz, join a sing-and-dance-along, and see themselves in an ABBA video. ABBAWORLD organizers say the exhibit will visit other major cities following its London residency. Founded in 1970, ABBA has sold nearly 370 million albums worldwide. Exhibit ends March 26.

Rotterdam International Film Festival

International and independent films vie for the Tiger Awards with many of the 3,000 attendees joining the CineMart, which runs concurrently. This Dutch event is a cineaste's favorite for its fine programming of art films as well as art exhibits.

Apple Press Conference

Technology blogs are full of speculation about the new products Apple will announce at its January 27 press conference. Text on the press conference invitations reads, "Come and see our latest creation," fuelling the assumption that Apple will announce their coveted "tablet" at the press-only event. Insider information also points to the possible unveiling of all-new MacBook Pro laptops, iPhone 4.0 and a cloud-based iTunes store that will run natively in internet browsers.



The Brandery

The Spanish city, which is considered one of the epicenters of urban and alternative fashion, suffered when Bread & Butter relocated back to its home town Berlin last year. The Brandery attempts to fill that void.
