28 of the funniest reactions to Trump suggesting bleach and UV light could stop coronavirus

By now, you would think that we had heard the worst of Trump's nonsensical ramblings but he may have just produced the single most idiotic and dangerous thing he has ever uttered.

During Thursday's White House coronavirus task force press briefing, the president said that William Bryan, an acting homeland security official, had told him that being subjected to sunlight had warm conditions had caused the virus to die off in some patients, while studies had shown that bleach and isopropyl alcohol could also eradicate the illness.

Seeking to learn more Trump asked Bryan, during the briefing, if prolonged exposure to UV lights and injecting bleach into a person could actually cure Covid-19 altogether. This is what the president actually said:

Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light? And I think you said, that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it.

And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting.

And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that?

By injection inside or almost a cleaning. As you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.

We aren't going to go into details as to why this is completely ridiculous and a borderline negligent thing to say as it should be pretty obvious that injecting disinfectant into somebody isn't a good idea.

Here is an actual scientist reacting to this nonsense.

Here is Dr Deborah Birx, who is actually part of the coronavirus task force, looking actually mortified as the president said this.

And the Curb Your Enthusiasm remix.

Soon enough 'Dettol' and 'Cillit Bang' was trending on Twitter and mockery of Trump reigned supreme.

Maybe Toilet Duck would be a more sensible solution?

Of course, there are Simpsons memes. There are always Simpsons memes.

We're pretty sure that Rik Mayall tried this out on Bottom years ago...

Maybe doctors and nurses will actually give this a go.

It's gotten to the point where people don't actually have to mention his name anymore and you'll know exactly who they are talking about.

At the time of writing, coronavirus is reported to have killed more than 40,000 people in the United States alone and Trump is still trying to come up with nonsensical solutions to this problem which don't involve giving out proper PPE to healthcare workers. Weird flex and definitely not ok.
