Bella Hadid has taken to Instagram to support Palestinians after Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Never one to shy away from political issues, the supermodel has written an impassioned post to caption an image of the Dome of The Rock in Jerusalem.

To her 16 million followers, 21-year-old Hadid wrote: “I’ve been waiting to put this into perfect words but I realised there is no perfect way to speak of something so unjust. A very very sad day.

“Watching the news and seeing the pain of the Palestinian people makes me cry for the many many generations of Palestine.”

She explained that her Palestinian-American father, cousins and family were all feeling for their ancestors, which made the post hard to write.

“Jerusalem is home of all religions,” Hadid continued. “For this to happen, I feel, makes us take five steps back making it harder to live in a world of peace.

“The TREATMENT of the Palestinian people is unfair, one-sided and should not be tolerated. I stand with Palestine.

“There is no hate against anyone... My best friends I call sisters and brothers are Jewish. There are no sides... All religions living side by side.. Now it is just one man… it has always been a factor of trying to bring peace... Where is the hope..?”

Her message has received over 800,000 likes in just 19 hours.

Hadid’s father Mohamed has similarly condemned Trump’s move, calling it the saddest day of his life.

Jerusalem has been under Israeli control since 1967, despite both Palestinians and Israelis claiming it as their own.

The majority of UN countries don’t recognise Jerusalem as part of Israel.

Both Bella and her sister Gigi have publicly celebrated their Palestinian roots by gracing the cover of Vogue Arabia this year.
