Whether you’re a life-long vegetarian or someone who has recently adopted a flexitarian diet, you’re in luck as McDonald’s are offering customers free vegetarian wraps.

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, which takes place from 13 – 17 May, the fast food retailer is inviting customers to enjoy a lunchtime treat – the Spicy Veggie One wrap – free of charge.

The wrap contains red pesto veggie goujons, spicy relish, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, and red onion. There is also a vegan option without mayonnaise.

To claim the freebie, customers need only use the MyMcDonald’s App before 11:59pm on Friday 17 May.

The offer, which can be located at the top of the app's home screen, is available at a select number of McDonald’s branches across the UK.which are also listed on the app.

The deal comes almost a month after fast food competitor Burger King offered customers the chance to nab a free burger on a day dubbed “Whopper Wednesday”.

On the day, customers across the UK would only be able to buy the retailer’s signature burger.

In April, several McDonald’s took to Twitter to complain that the company’s new paper straws were ruining their drinks, specifically milkshakes.

Customers were so enraged that one launched a petition, which has now garnered more than 44,000 signatures, calling for McDonald’s to bring back its plastic straws.

The company began phasing out plastic straws last September, with the process to be completed sometime this year, in a bid to cut-down on plastic pollution.

In light of the complaints, a spokesperson from McDonald's told The Independent: "Our suppliers have made us paper straws that last at least 30 minutes in most, if not all liquids.

"They were introduced following customer feedback, and we are pleased to be doing the right thing in removing plastic from our restaurants and taking significant steps to reduce our environmental impact.”
