MAC Cosmetics has launched an online contest to select the new official faces for its Fall 2011 Collection.

MAC (Make-up Art Cosmetics) is a leading global brand of professional cosmetics. It was created in Toronto, Canada in 1984 and is now part of The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc.

"MAC Me Over!" aims to tap into the beauty line's fan base to find its next models. The contest, open to all US residents ages 18 and older, is now accepting submissions via a dedicated website through December 20, 2010. Both men and women are encouraged to apply.

To enter, one has to submit a photo and accompanying essay not exceeding 300 characters that finishes this statement: "M·A·C Me Over! because... ." The photo must be no larger than 5MB in size and in .jpeg or .gif format. For tech-savvy applicants, a 15-second video entry addressing that same statement will also be accepted in lieu of a still photo. The video file must be under 100 MB in size and in one of the following formats: AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, or 3G2.

Six lucky winners will be selected in August 2011 by James Gager, the company's creative director. They will then be flown to New York City where they will be made over by a professional makeup artist and star in a worldwide campaign photographed by an award-winning fashion and celebrity photographer.

"MAC Me Over! is a true celebration of MAC's credo - All Ages, All Races, All Sexes," says Gager. "The program allows us to honor our fans by celebrating their individual personality and style."

The dedicated website is a visual, moving mosaic where visitors can scope out other entrants and even contact them via their Twitter and Facebook accounts by clicking on a button above their photos. In addition, the MAC Facebook Fan Page will give real time updates on the contest.

The Milan-based United Colors of Benetton is another company that has selected models via an online contest. This past spring, the Italian fashion company launched the global competition "It's My Time" in order to select 20 new faces for its Autumn/Winter 2010 advertising campaign. Benetton's global casting session was initially voted by the web community. The final 100 finalists were then whittled down by a specially formed jury.
