Marc Jacobs becomes first recipient of MTV VMAs Fashion Trailblazer Award

Marc Jacobs brought a touch of old school Hollywood magic to the MTV VMAs by wearing a pair of Wizard of Oz-inspired ruby heels.

The American fashion designer revealed his sparkly footwear in a photograph shared on Instagram prior to Monday evening's award ceremony.

"My ruby slippers by @Prada. We are off to see the VMAs. Following that brick road always!" Jacobs wrote in the picture's caption.

The shoes worn by the 56-year-old appear to be Prada's ruby red satin pumps, which are covered in synthetic crystals and are on sale for £825.

Several of Jacobs' Instagram followers praised the designer over his dazzling shoes, many of whom made references to the 1939 film, which stars Judy Garland as the protagonist, Dorothy.

"I must have those in my life!!" one person commented with regards to the eye-catching heels.

"Put those ruby shoes to work, Dorothy!" another wrote.

Jacobs completed his look with a bespoke olive-green suit designed by Savile Row tailor Huntsman and a black Hermes clutch.

During Monday evening's MTV VMAs, Jacobs became the first recipient of the Fashion Trailblazer Award.

The new award was announced by MTV in July in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

The fashion designer expressed his gratitude on Instagram after being presented with the award at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.

Following the ceremony, Jacobs shared a photograph on the social media platform of himself kissing his trophy.
