An Australian fashion brand has come under fire for launching a “#MeToo Collection” inspired by the global movement that has seen survivors of sexual assault and victims of sexual harassment speak out about their experiences.

Kholo is a Melbourne-based womenswear label that prides itself of ethical production and a couture-inspired bohemian aesthetic, however, its latest collection has sparked a furore online after someone tweeted out a screenshot of its description on the brand’s website.

“Oh no,” the tweet reads, alongside a description of the collection.

The description on the website, likely written by the label's founder Karishma Kasabia, said: “When the whole #MeToo thing broke out, I was so surprised. Friends, mentors, peers - were all opening up about their experiences.

“I started getting into books, following feeds and reading more and more stories.

“Women have been protecting themselves for generations. I just didn’t know. Yes. It shouldn’t happen. But yes. It does.”

The description continues to explain that the collection is “for the warriors” and “for all the wounds.”

The collection itself consists of 33 pieces and includes a mixture of stylish coats, blouses, skirts and a #MeToo badge with prices ranging from $29 (£16.50) to $599 (£340).

However, it has been lambasted on social media, with some people criticising certain items for their suggestive names, such as the “take me off slip dress” and the “sex on legs in night” wrap dress.

The collection contains a dress entitled ‘sex on legs’ and a jumper called ‘bounce with me’, seriously what kind of nasty degenerate would try and cash in on the #MeToo movement #BoycottKholo,” wrote one person on Twitter.

“Nope. Nope. Nope,” added another.

“Others accused the label of trivialising the movement: “Don't call it ‘the whole #MeToo thing’" Just don't,” one person wrote.

The Independent has contacted Kholo for comment.
