Beyonce poses with a Chanel surfboard and writes poem about Blue Ivy for CR Fashion Book

The queen of pop collaborates with editor Carine Roitfeld in a fashion shoot that embraces women's identity

Beyonce is the latest superstar to pose for CR Fashion Book and the first one to write a poem for it.

The Single Ladies’ singer follows the steps of Kimye’s baby daughter North West and Eurovision’s winner, Conchita Wurst, by fronting the issue No.5 of the magazine of former Vogue Paris editor, Carine Roitfeld.

The 32-year-old singer was revealed as the issue’s cover star after the publication teased readers online with a photo of Beyonce hidden behind a Sisters by Sibling knitted mask.

The photoshoot comes after her flashy and “feminist” performance at the VMAs last weekend, where she performed Bow Down Bitches while grinding on a pole.

This editorial, however, is all about women’s identity. Entitled “Queen B”, it reads: “In her first collaboration with Carine Roitfeld, the ever-changing Beyonce expresses her many moods, manners, auras, and multifaceted characters.”

In addition, the opening photo makes reference to Beyonce's new controversial track Drunk in Love, which was criticised for being “sexist” and “explicit”. One of the lines of song says: “Then I fill the tub up halfway then ride it with my surfboard, surfboard, surfboard.” Ironically, the black and white image features the pop star posing next to a Chanel surfboard.

The edgy editorial was shot by renowned fashion photographer Pierre Debusschere and directed by Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci, the man behind Kim Kardashian’s wedding dress – and that star-studded Ibiza party.

Inside the magazine, the pop star looks flawless in a trench coat, wearing floor-length hair, sans bra. She’s also seen posing as Virgin Mary, as catwoman and as a glamorous surfer, showing Beyonce's artistic side.

However, what makes the editorial even more unique is the Bey The Light poem. Yes, instead of a standard interview, Beyonce wrote a poem, remixed by Pulitizer finalist Forrest Ganrder, about identity and her daughter Blue Ivy. The poem starts with: “It’s my daughter, she’s my biggest muse. There’s someone, we all find soon, more important than ourselves to lose.”

The issue will be out on 4 September, on Beyonce’s birthday.
