Karl Lagerfeld is going head to head with Anna Wintour and the Met Gala, hosting his cruise show for Chanel in Seoul on the same night.

It's the second time Lagerfeld has shown a collection on the same night as another major fashion event; in December his Metiers d'Art show held in Salzburg clashed with the annual Victoria's Secret show meaning models including Cara Delevingne who has made regular appearances for both brands, had a difficult decision to make.

The Costume Institute gala, or Met ball as it is more commonly known, is a major fundraising event that is held every May in New York, a few days ahead of the opening of the Met's fashion exhibition.

The annual event is chaired by Anna Wintour and always attracts an impressive guestlist which includes designers, models and other famous faces from music and film.

A spokesman from Chanel told WWD:

"We had committed to bringing our cruise collection to our Korean clients and May 4 was the only possible date. Chanel is very much dedicated to supporting the Anna Wintour Costume Institute Benefit this year as we always have."

"We greatly respect the incredible contributions Anna Wintour and The Metropolitan Museum of Art have made toward the preservation, education and celebration of the art of fashion, and are proud to be a supporter of this important institution.”
