The first lady of British fashion today made her debut appearance at this season's London Fashion Week.

Samantha Cameron graced the front row of the Christopher Kane catwalk show at central London's One New Change shopping centre.

The Prime Minister's wife, who is ambassador to the British Fashion Council (BFC), was spotted wearing a Joseph trouser suit and a Jonathan Saunders green shirt.

She also sported a pair of wedged black high shoes showing off a small blue tattoo on her right ankle.

Mrs Cameron chatted with BFC executives before watching the autumn/winter collection.

Models strutted down the catwalk in an array of blue, red, purple and black garments.

The collection, which fused floral patterns with an array of metallic prints, seemed to meet Mrs Cameron's approval.

Last year she appeared to be displeased at the waif-like models who stalked down the catwalk during the Erdem show.

Other celebrities who took up seats on the much-coveted front row included American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, presenter Alexa Chung and models Yasmin Le Bon and Laura Bailey.

Chung said Christopher Kane is a "creative genius".

"I think from the get-go he was a very impressive talent," she said.

"Donatella Versace got behind him, as did Anna Wintour, and that's because they recognised he was a creative genius and saw someone who could challenge people like Alexander McQueen in terms of being that important for London during fashion week.

"I think he is at the forefront of the industry, he's who people visit London to see."

Le Bon added: "I have seen him (Christopher Kane) since before he even graduated, I was judging him in some competition, and he was just so outstanding.

"In a world of his own - but brilliantly. He always has his obsession every season.

"He dances to his own tune rather than anyone else's and is unbelievably wearable.

"I just throw a Christopher Kane dress on and that's it, I'm done, you feel special.

"There is an element of energy and a twist."
