Taylor Swift fans rejoiced on Monday as their favourite preppy pop star released a brand new music video for her latest single, “You Need to Calm Down".

In the new video, which offers a flavour of Swift’s highly-anticipated upcoming album, Lover, the 29-year-old musician serves up a sartorial delight by donning no less than five eccentric ensembles.

Similarly to her previous music video, “ME!”, which was dripping in pale pastel hues, the aesthetic for ”You Need to Calm Down” is playful and flamboyant – it even features fancy dress.

There are references to the singer’s infamous and now-resolved rift with singer Katy Perry throughout the video, but these come to a head in the final scene when Perry herself appears, wearing the hamburger costume she wore to the Met Gala after party last month.

Swift, who is no stranger to symbolism (remember all of those snakes in “Look What You Made Me Do”?) reflects their newfound friendship by wearing a fries costume. In what is an admirable finishing touch, Swift has also dyed the tips of her hair red for this scene, so it looks as if she has been dipped in ketchup.

Elsewhere, there's a retro yolk yellow bikini and what appears to be a tribute to Elle Woods, the all-pink-wearing protagonist in the 2001 film, Legally Blonde.
