A British baker has cooked up a unique tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton after spending 80 hours creating a cake bearing a likeness of the soon-to-be-married couple.

Michelle Wibowo's traditional English fruit cake, which has been carved into busts of the pair, will form the centrepiece of the Ideal Home Cake Decorator of the Year competition at London's Ideal Home Show.

The cake, which will go on show from Wednesday, is covered with 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of marzipan and 10 kilograms of icing, which has been meticulously sculpted and airbrushed to create a likeness of the couple.

"I used this cake competition as a great opportunity to do something different, other than the usual traditional decorated round tiered cake people normally expect for a wedding cake," said Wibowo, from West Sussex in south England.

"It was really a challenge for me to do this cake. It's hard work, but I really enjoyed making it," she added.

The prince will marry Middleton at a ceremony in London's historic Westminster Abbey on April 29.
