Sunday lunch

Finca Villacreces Pruno 2012, Ribera del Duero

Seriously classy Tempranillo blend with some Cabernet Sauvignon from an organic vineyard adjacent to the legendary Vega Sicilia winery. Elegant, velvety, opulent; dark red-fruit flavours mingling with tar, spice and smoke. Fantastic with the last game of the season. £13.49, agwines.com; £13.76, slurp.co.uk

Midweek meal

Trapiche Pure Malbec 2013

This is, as its name implies, a pure and simple expression of Malbec: unoaked, juicy and hugely approachable, the sweet red fruits dominating and really good value at this price. So, spend money on a good steak to enjoy it with. £8.99, Co-op stores

Bargain basement

Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhônes 2012, Vinsobres

Just a couple more days to snap up this terrific bargain: Vinsobres is one of the designated 14 "Cru" villages of the Rhône Valley, where the wines are medium to full, rich and spicy, with typically good structure and balance. Perfect for tomato-based Mediterranean dishes. £8.99 (until Tuesday; normally £13.99), Waitrose
