Blumenthal restaurant cleared to re-open

Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck restaurant is to re-open tomorrow following a food scare, his spokeswoman said today.

Although some tests by environmental health officers were yet to come back, no evidence had been found of food poisoning at the restaurant, she said.

Around 400 diners reported feeling unwell after eating at the restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, one of only three in Britain with three Michelin stars, last month.

Blumenthal's spokeswoman said that the re-opening had been authorised by the Windsor and Maidenhead Council and the Health Protection Agency, which have been investigating the outbreak.

Blumenthal is making no comment until all the test results have been received back.

His spokeswoman said: "We are very excited to be re-opening. We will be open at lunchtime tomorrow and we are hoping to be back to normal as soon as possible."

Around 500 diners who had their reservations cancelled since the restaurant closed on 24 February will be offered new tables in the coming weeks.

Blumenthal is thought to have lost more than £100,000 in takings while the restaurant has been closed.
