Two-headed colossus burger hits Europe

Think of it as a two-headed, bipolar burger. On one side, you've got a burger with sauce au poivre - or peppercorn sauce - on a poppy seed bun; on the other, is a beef patty with melted brie sauce.

Le Double Mix is the latest gourmet burger to come out of Belgian/French fast-food chain Quick and joins a string of hedonistic, gut-popping sandwiches that have gained headlines in recent months.

Le Double Mix Chicken also comes with a mild curry sauce on one side and a spicy curry sauce on the other, both on a breaded chicken cutlet. The sandwiches are available until April 18.

When KFC launched their monstrous Double Down Sandwich in North America last year, it generated buzz worldwide for its decadence: touted as the world's first bunless sandwich, the Double Down used two pieces of breaded, fried chicken cutlets to hold together two pieces of bacon and two pieces of processed Pepper Jack Cheese.

The meal became the chain's most successful sandwich in KFC history, with more than 10 million sold in the US in less than a month.

Though the fast-food giant had no plans to sell the sandwich in Canada, popular demand persuaded the chain to market the Double Down there as well. It's not yet available outside North America.

US-based roast beef sandwich chain Arby's has also just come out with their Angus Three Cheese & Bacon sandwich which likewise packs a caloric wallop at 660 calories, without condiments.

Meanwhile, the restaurant chain Quick is still in damage control following the death of a French teenager who died after eating two hamburgers at one of their Avignon restaurants. An autopsy concluded that the 14-year-old died from food poisoning. The family is suing the chain.
