Eminem and Lady Gaga to perform at YouTube's first ever music awards show

Spike Jonze will direct the 90 minute event while Jason Schwartzman will host

YouTube has announced that it will host its first ever awards show on 3 November. The event will be live-streamed from New York and will feature artists including Lady GagGa, Eminem and Arcade Fire.

The awards show will be hosted by Jason Schwartzman and will feature the talents of Spike Jonze as creative director, but YouTube have also been keen to stress the input of the site’s users who will vote for their favourite acts.

“On October 17, YouTube Music Awards Nominations will be announced based on the videos that you watched and shared over the past year. We’ll then call on you to determine the songs and artists honored, by sharing the nominees across social media so the awards are judged in full view of everyone,” said YouTube in a blog post announcing the show.

The night will feature performances from home-grown YouTube talent such as Lindsey Stirling and CDZA, with the video streaming site handing out seven awards (in yet unknown categories) during the 90 minute show.

“From catalyzing careers and pop culture phenomena to propelling a song’s rise to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, our global community’s influence is felt across the music industry,” said Danielle Tiedt, YouTube’s vice president of marketing, in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate our fans and the music they love with a whole new kind of awards show – the first-ever YouTube Music Awards – judged by you.”
